For Monday's class, please read Murphey, chapter 12, on Tokugawa Japan (14 pages), and for Wednesday's class read Murphey, chapter 13, on the increasing contact between Asia and the West (20 pages). Be prepared to answer the chapter review questions.

I liked most of the films we previewed in class today, but the movie To Live was really good.
ReplyDeleteI was searching online for other movies and came across Kano, a Taiwanese baseball film that was directed by Umin Boya. It is about a multiracial Kano baseball team from Japanese-era Taiwan in 1931, and is an underdog story, according to Wikipedia.
All the films suggested today would be great!
